Chicago Architecture

For all architecture aficionados out there, the yearly Chicago Open House weekend suits you well. Firms and historically significant buildings open their doors for a weekend only, and talk to you about the greatest achievements fellow Chicagoans have accomplished in the dynamic skyline reaching modern heights. For example, did you know it was a Chicago based Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill architecture firm that was commissioned to design the Burj Khalifa?

Now this isn’t like that time when I tried to convince everyone that Drake was from Chicago… this is actually true 🙂 ! This tour most definitely made me proud to be a Chicagoan. Forget New York, we have the movers and shakers slash originators of tomorrow’s skyline deciders! Also, Chicago is know for its concrete aesthetics and people all over the world flood this city to marvel at its beauty from the famous architectural boat tours on the river, to actual boating activities on the lake. The best part? It’s Free! So next year come October, get out and learn about Chicago’s amazing creative inklings in its many architectural tours offered at no cost by the Architecture Foundation. Click the photos above to see them in full view in gallery form. What do you think about Chicago architecture? Any favorites?
