Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan in India, a region renowned for its textiles and jewelry. When spending Christmas in Jaipur this year, I certainly wanted to do some artsy shopping, though did not expect to go by way of forceful coercion, which often happens on tours with drivers. Although initially a little upset about the tuk tuk driver sneakily taking me to a textile shop and then a pashmina wholesale center, in the end it led to a very beautiful display of colors and images. The colors in India always enchant me, from the first time I came December of 2009 for an elaborate wedding. Coming from a girl who wears a constant repertoire of black, white, and grays, this is saying a lot. Nothing puts you at ease better then rainbow magic being splashed in front of you by a shop owner repeatedly convincing you that “looking is free.”
