Club Cubana owned and run by expats around Anjuna beach area claims to sit at the highest point in Goa. Although these statements aren’t officially verified, it does happen to have a nice view from atop Goa and smooth ambiance with a sizable pool in the middle surrounded by white plush chairs and sofas. Divided between three levels, the meta division comprises an exclusive VIP area where those who like to see and be seen order bottle service and beckon the leggy ladies over to partake in the finer things in life. Oh yeah, and when those munchies kick in after a long night out, this place also toots an Italian style brick oven for pizza making alla Napoletana later on in the evening.

Taking a seat at one of the various tables, I stare at the pool and semi-eaves-drop on the conversation taking place next to me, a sister and brother: true cosmopolitan youngsters from the UK on holiday, and soon to be, I discover, très fun friends. Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, a fearless dancing woman set ablaze lights up the scene with her majestically moving hips on fire, and the whole crowd cheers. The place roars with excitement and laughter creating the perfect icebreaker, and a night of collecting friends and memories begins. I recommend Club Cubana for a splendid night of people watching and friend making, granted you’re willing to dish out a bit of cash. It being ladies night on the Wednesday I visited, I bypassed the door fee, but the boy had to pay a steep 1,000 Indian rupees (~20 USD), which at least provided an open bar. As the crowd multiplies and people grow rowdier and braver in their dancing, I get ‘snappy happy,’ shooting the flash of my camera at anything that moves! After some intense body therapy on the dance floor, with the night finally winding down, I’m ready to walk over to that brilliantly thought up oven to order a pizza. Collecting a few more fun friends along the way, I sink my teeth into some much-needed cheesy goodness. Pizza oven, great lighting, globetrotting echelons of society that bump and groove the night away, all in Goa, India can be found at Club Cubana on roughly any night of the week!
